Ground Up is a hip-hop trio based out of North Philadelphia. The group is made up of Azar and Malakai, two MC’s and a producer, Bij Lincolns. In the fall of that year, the two rappers released their first mixtape, Grand Opening; a compilation that cemented Ground Up front and center in the Philadelphia hip-hop scene as well as establish Bij Lincolns as a legitimate and thriving producer.
One of the main things that impressed me with Ground Up’s (aka Ground Up Sounds) music was Bij’s production. He manages to perfectly recreate that old-school East coast hip-hop beat, which wonderfully compliments the spoken-word style and lyrically-based rap from Azar and Malakai.
At this point I’m sure some of you are familiar with their music. But for those who are not here is a sampler… What you will find below is a collection of what I consider their 11 best songs.
